Russian-made combat helicopter seen flying over Tehran, defense website claims
Recently, a video has surfaced in which it is claimed that a Russian-made Mi-28NE helicopter can be seen flying over Iran’s capital, Tehran.
Last week, images also appeared on social media showing at least one Mi-28NE present in Iran.
However, the website says that it has not been independently verified where and when this video was recorded.
According to the website, the images that emerged last week were apparently taken at the hangar of Pars Aerospace Services Company located at Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport.
In addition, on January 3, Iranian journalist Mohammad Taheri shared a post in the Persian language on the social media platform X regarding Iran’s military strength, along with an attached image of an Mi-28 in desert camouflage.
Mi-28 helicopters are equipped with a 30-millimeter automatic machine gun and can carry various weapons on four hardpoints, including anti-tank missiles and rockets. The helicopter’s primary sensor system consists of a mast-mounted radar and an infrared camera installed at the front of the helicopter.
According to the website, the exact capabilities and total number of Mi-28 helicopters being supplied to Iran are not yet clear, and due to the low quality of the surfaced video, it is difficult to assess many details.
Experts say that the presence of Mi-28 helicopters in Iran could also be an indication that further weapons and military equipment are being delivered by Russia or are expected soon.
The website said that in January, online flight-tracking data revealed that at least five Il-76 transport aircraft flights took place from Russia to Iran.
After the 12-day war with Israel, Iran is trying to strengthen its weakened military stockpiles, and the possible supply of Mi-28 helicopters is being considered part of this strategy.
The website added that overall, the evidence indicates that at least one Mi-28 helicopter has reached Iran, while further details on this matter are likely to emerge in the coming days.
