10 Most Dangerous Ocean Phenomena in the World -P2

The oceans contain great mysteries within their depths while many of these mysteries have been explained by scientists and analysts there are still quite a few unexplained oceanic enigmas that intrigue us a variety of mysterious ocean phenomena have been seen and experienced by sailors around the world

Tsunami

A tsunami is a series of ocean waves that sends surges of water sometimes reaching heights of over 100 feet 30 point 5 meters onto land these walls of water can cause widespread destruction when they crash ashore tsunamis are giant waves caused by earthquakes or volcanic eruptions under the sea out in the depths of the ocean tsunami waves do not dramatically increase in height but as the waves travel inland they build up to higher and higher heights as the depth of the ocean decreases the speed of tsunami waves depends on ocean depth rather than the distance from the source of the wave tsunami waves may travel as fast as jet planes over water only slowing down when reaching shallow waters while tsunamis are often referred to as tidal waves this name is discouraged by oceanographers because tides have little to do with these giant waves the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004 killed an estimated 225,000 people in 14 countries including India Sri Lanka Indonesia and Thailand thank you so much

tornadic waterspout

Tornadic water spouts are whirling columns of air and mist that form most frequently during warm seasons over oceans harbors and lakes they're often called tornadoes over water but not all water spouts are true tornadoes tornadic water spouts are tornadoes that form over water or move from land to water they form under the same severe weather conditions as ordinary tornadoes that is they are vertical columns of rotating air that extend from cumulonimbus or severe thunderstorm clouds down to the ground also like ordinary tornadoes they have high winds large hail frequent lightning and can be fairly destructive the lower Florida Keys report more waterspout activity than any other location in the world and Florida is considered to be the waterspout capital of the u.s.

Bermuda Triangle

The Bermuda Triangle also known as The Devil's Triangle is a loosely defined region in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean where a number of aircraft and ships are said to have disappeared under mysterious circumstances reports of unexplained occurrences in the region date to the mid 19th century some ships were discovered completely abandoned for no apparent reason others transmitted no distress signals and were never seen or heard from again aircraft have been reported and then vanished and rescue missions are said to have vanished when flying in the area however wreckage has not been found and some of the theories advanced to explain the repeated mysteries have been fanciful although theories of supernatural causes for these disappearances abound geophysical and environmental factors are most likely responsible one hypothesis is that pilots failed to account for the a gana Cline the place at which there is no need to compensate for magnetic compass variation as they approach the Bermuda Triangle resulting in significant navigational error and catastrophe

Media tsunami

A media tsunami is a tidal wave that occurs not as a result of seismic activity or an earthquake like a tsunami but rather from atmospheric condition media tsunamis are generally smaller than tsunamis caused by earthquakes when conditions are right such as severe thunderstorms squalls or other storm fronts caused by unstable atmospheric pressure activity immediate tsunami can occur in any type of body of water as a storm that generated the wave moves toward the shore the wave grows larger and larger as the continental shelf becomes more shallow then as the wave approaches the shore of a coast the media tsunami forms the media tsunami has been reported in many places around the world including the Great Lakes Gulf of Mexico Atlantic Ocean coast and the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas identifying one of these waves is a challenge because its characteristics are almost identical to a seismic tsunami making it difficult to predict them and warn the public of potential Disater

Riptide

Rip currents are powerful narrow channels of fast-moving water that are prevalent along the east gulf and west coasts of the US as well as along the shores of the Great Lakes moving at speeds of up to 8 feet per second rip currents can move faster than an Olympic swimmer swimmer's often try to counter a rip current by swimming straight back to shore putting themselves at risk of drowning because of fatigue lifeguards rescued tens of thousands of people from rip currents in the US every year but it is estimated that 100 people are killed by rip currents annually if caught in a rip current don't fight it swim parallel to the shore and swim back to land at an angle
